FAQ
Dental Practices
Medical emergencies are rare in general Dental Practices but the General Dental Council (GDC) states that:
“All dental professionals are responsible for putting patients’ interests first and acting to protect them.”
As part of that commitment, all dental professionals must undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
The Resuscitation Council (UK) recommends:
“Dental Practitioners and Dental Care Professionals should all undergo training in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), basic airway management and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Staff should update their skills at least annually.”
GP Practices
According to the Resuscitation Council (UK):
“All staff in a primary care organisations, including non-clinical staff, should undergo regular training in resuscitation of both adults and children to the level appropriate to their role.”
The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) stresses:
“…the responsibility to maintain your Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) skills by regular attendance at training run by an approved Resuscitation Council trainer/assessor.”
